If you want to go the distance, you need to be a good communicator.

Secret #1: The “3-Second Rule”

This is the most important rule of effective communication. Simply put, it states that if someone asks you a question, you should give them an answer in less than three seconds.

 

More than 90% of all conversations are non-verbal. That means that if you don't speak up soon enough, the other person will begin to form a mental picture in his mind which will be impossible (for him) to change.

Secret #2: Ask Questions Instead Of Giving Answers

Most people are reluctant to ask questions because they feel it makes them look weak. But the truth is, not asking the right questions can cripple your ability to achieve your goals. And often, simply asking the right questions can lead you to answers that were previously impossible to obtain.

 

So don't be a dummy. If you have a goal of becoming rich, don't you dare sit back and expect things to happen. People don’t want to know why you’re saying something. They just want to hear your words and know that you are sincere. If someone asks you how you are and you reply “Great! Just great!” they will interpret this as meaning that you aren’t doing too well and that you should cheer up. No. What they want to hear is “I’m great.

Another way to think about this is… If Someone Is Talking, They Are Not Thinking! And you should never interrupt someone who is thinking. If they are really deep in thought, you should give them more time by asking if you can repeat what you just said. Or simply ask if you can say something else that will help them to understand your point.
